Friends Of Extension Meets At SWREC
I attended a "Friends of Extension" meeting Monday January 12th at the Southwest Research and Extension Center. I did not know that Hemsptead County is the biggest agricultural county in the southwest portion of the state. We are number 5 on cattle production. The 2007 ag census shows 894 farms. Agriculture that year was worth $167,118,000 to Hempstead County that year. It was a great, eye-opening meeting about the value of agriculture to our county.
We certainly want our elected officials to understand how important agriculture is to our state and how important "extension" and the services from the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture are to our area. Pictured in the lobby of the SWREC following the meeting is Joseph Barry, Hanna Barry, Maggie Barry, Larry Byers, Dr. Vic Ford, Sarah Powell, Randy Hare, Ruth E. Cook, and Steven Sheets. Several others including Clay Lance and Dr. Linda Clark attended the meeting but had to leave before the photo was taken.
