Lions Hears Hope For Paws Program From Carol Robinson

The Hope Lions Club heard from Carol Robinson of "Hope for Paws" on Monday May 19th. Robinson and her group "foster" dogs and also help the Hope Animal Shelter in adopting dogs. The group is having success in placing dogs with a rescue group in Minnesota called "Wags & Whiskers". Robinson notes in the first four months of 2013 207 dogs were brought in to the Hope Animal Shelter and 65% of those dogs were euthanized. In the first four months of 2014 there have been 183 dogs brought in to the Hope Animal Shelter and only 42 euthanized. The Minnesota group is looking for dogs because there are nearly as many dogs up there as there are in the south. Dogs cannot withstand the harsh Minnesota winters so most are kept inside and strays end up freezing. Of late "Hope for Paws" have been sending dogs to Minnesota every couple of weeks.
The group is small but they are making a big difference in saving good, healthy dogs. Anyone interested in helping can contact Robinson, Jo Ann Sandlin, or Kelly Bass.
Robinson is the current Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. She is shown enjoying lunch at the meeting with her son, Lion Craig Robinson
