Chamber Secretary Novalene Slatton had the cuffs slapped on her Friday (7-29) at Sears in Hope by Sheriff Singleton. Slatton was "nabbed" and "charged" for her Watermelon Festival sponsorship efforts. Sheriff Singleton relented on hauling Slatton to "the big house" when she consented to purchase some sheets from Sears to donate to Hope for Joplin. Looking on is James Griffin, Kathy Struckman, and Sears owner Pam Wood. Hope Mayor Dennis Ramsey is on hand as the "arrest" took place in city jurisdiction. Upon learning he had to cuff the beloved long-time Chamber secretary, Sheriff Singleton sighed and said "I'm sure glad this isn't an election year".
