Hope Kiwanis Club Hears Program On Origin Of Santa Claus From Presbyterian Minister

The Hope Kiwanis Club heard a Christmas-themed program Tuesday December 9th from Rev. Kathleen Hignight of First Presbyterian Church.  Rev. Hignight talked about some of the Christian origins of some of the icons of the holiday.  She specifically detailed the origins of "St. Nick" who was a bishop in the Christian church in the third century in modern-day Turkey.  Nicholas wore red robes and did such good deeds as leaving cash in young ladies' stockings for wedding dowries.  As time went on, this saint of the early church evolved into our modern-day Santa Claus!
