Hempstead and Nevada County Prosecutor Christi McQueen spoke to the Hope Lions Club Monday February 6th. McQueen is the first full-time prosecutor the district has had. The position was made full-time last year by the legislature. The office also now has two full-time deputies.

Hope Fire Chief Dale Glanton was the first program for the Lions Club for 2012. Chief Glanton told the Lions his department still has some smoke detectors they will install free of charge for elderly and low income residents. He also noted in 2011 the department made more calls than in 2010; however this was mainly due to grass fires from the drought conditions.

USDA Presents Plaque To Rosston Mayor Lewis Jackson

USDA Rural Development Loan Specialist Keith Huskey presented a plaque Thursday November 17th at the Rosston Fire Department to Rosston Mayor Lewis Jackson. The plaue is in honor of a Rural Development project which will extend Rosston City Water about 75 households in the Laneburg area. Many of these families are having to haul water to their homes. The $1.4 million dollar project involves nearly 20 miles of water lines and a 100,000 gallon water tank.

Hope Education Association Hosts Coffee

The Hope Education Association hosted the Chamber Coffee in Hope on Wedenesday November 16th. The group has 103 members spread over all five Hope School campuses. 34 of these members are Educational Support Professionals. The week was National Education Week and Wednesday was National E.S.P. Day and the HEA wanted to especially honor their local Educational Support Professionals. The group meets next on January 12th and the members are working on funding their annual scholarships. Joining the Gresham's is Livewire Coach, Chad Lites; Spring Hill softball coach, Todd Finley; and Lady Bears Basketball coach, Laura Kidd. Gresham has been a stand-out in all sports at Spring Hill but chose to accept the softball scholarship at OBU.

Brad Rogers recently brought his friend Stephan Gleich of Landau, Germany by the Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce. Rogers worked with his father, the late C.M. "Pod" Rogers when the elder Rogers founded the modern Watermelon Festival in 1977. Gleich attends a University in Germany and also serves on a volunteer fire department.
