Dr. Roscoe Smith speaks as Ketty Lester listens during the ceremonies at UACCH on Friday July 3rd. Lester was awarded an honorary degree from the college. She spoke and sang three numbers which received standing ovations. Lester was awarded the degree by Chancellor Chris Thomason along with Jerry Pruden and Freddie Smith on behalf of the Board of Visitors. At the conclusion of the event Mayor Dennis Ramsey declared July 3rd, 2009 "Ketty Lester Day" in Hope. The Mayor noted he had danced to Lester's hit "Love Letters" at the old youth center in Hope.
